REOPENING OF THE MAILLOL MUSEUM: THE EXPOSITION YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS!

On the occasion of its reopening (after 18 months of renovation), the Maillot Museum presents the first major exhibition devoted to the artist Ben, to discover from September 14, 2016 to January 15, 2017

Ben is one of the major artists of the 20th century, known for his actions and works as its written sentences flash by hand or printed on monochromatic canvases. This is also a very caustic issue that gave its title to the poster of the exhibition “Everything is art?”. From the outset, a first work sets the tone, “I am ashamed to be here to see me,” and this mocking of people who might consider his art as “simplistic.”

Benjamin Vautier, whose real name, was born in 1935. It starts with street actions, including a nice fancy store, and became famous for his writings who threw a challenging look at the world of art and distinguished itself by its philosophical and critical thinking. Each sentence as short as it is, has an immense potential for capital questions about truth in art, the role of the artist in society and the relationship between art and life.

We meet at the Maillol Museum Ben’s Batte against the single thought, the consumer society and the bourgeoisie of the world of art. A world built of bits and jugs, which emerges through the exhibition of objects accumulated by the artist.

The exhibition is also funny, rich and tortuous Ben. 200 works spread over two levels and rub tens on the walls, from floor to ceiling: through ten important moments of his work, the Maillol Museum stands the emotional portrait of an endearing artist, as light as deep. Do not miss !
